What does DPF mean for automobile emissions? DPF is a diesel particulate filter, which is installed in the exhaust system of diesel vehicles to reduce particulate matter in the exhaust through filtration.
Diesel particulate filter DPF captures particles through surface and internal mixing filter devices, such as diffusion precipitation, inertial precipitation or linear interception. DPF can effectively purify 70%-90% of the particulates in exhaust gas. It is one of the most effective and direct methods to purify diesel particulate matter. It has been commercialized internationally.

Terminology of diesel vehicle aftertreatment device
⑴ Diesel vehicle aftertreatment device-refers to the device installed in the exhaust system of diesel vehicle engine, which can reduce the amount of pollutants in the exhaust through various physical and chemical effects. Mainly include DOC, DPF and SCR.
⑵Oxidation-type catalytic converter (DOC)-refers to a device installed in the exhaust system of diesel engines to reduce the emission of CO, THC and SOF in the exhaust gas.
(3) Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF for short)-refers to a device installed in the exhaust system of diesel vehicle engines to reduce the emission of particulate matter (PM) pollutants in the exhaust. The key technology is regeneration. It usually has DOC in the upstream, so it can reduce the emissions of HC, CO and PM at the same time. Combined with the cold EGR in the engine to reduce NOX emissions, it can meet the emission regulations and standards for the four emission limits. This is called the engine EGR+DPF technical route for the post-processing of the national IV external emission control.
①According to the regeneration mode, it is divided into active regeneration and passive regeneration. At present, the active regeneration methods in the world mainly include electric heating, fuel injection catalytic combustion and diesel burner regeneration methods.
② According to whether the surface of the filter element is coated with catalyst or not, it can be divided into DPF and CDPF.
③According to the filtering method and efficiency, it can be divided into wall flow WDPF and partial flow PDPF (or POC). The filtration efficiency of WDPF is stable between 85% and 99.5%; while the filtration efficiency of PDPF (POC) is between 30% and 80%, negative filtration efficiency may also occur under rapid acceleration.
④ There are more types of classification.
