Hydrogen fuel cell buses have taken root and sprouted in Changshu, Jiangsu, with a potential energy 80kW fuel cell engine providing assistance.
On April 25, 2023, 14 Yutong hydrogen fuel buses supported by Weishi Energy were delivered to Changshu Urban and Rural Bus Company and put into operation.
Since its operation for over three months, these 14 buses have left a deep impression on the users. Recently, a reporter from China Bus Network visited Changshu Urban and Rural Bus Company and gained a close understanding of the operation status of these 14 buses.
Both environmentally friendly and safe and comfortable
Everything is for energy conservation and emission reduction, and everything is for better implementation of the national dual carbon goals.
Changshu Urban and Rural Bus Company had already figured out the problem before deciding to purchase these 14 Yutong hydrogen fuel cell buses.
As early as the day of its operation, Pang Wenqing, Deputy General Manager of Urban and Rural Public Transportation in Changshu, stated that this is the first time that hydrogen powered public transportation has been put into use in urban and rural public transportation, which is of great significance for improving the urban environment and reducing energy consumption in Changshu. It will effectively help urban and rural public transportation create a “greener, more environmentally friendly, and more efficient” public transportation service brand, and assist in green and low-carbon urban transportation.
According to a reporter from China Bus Network, 14 10.5-meter Yutong hydrogen fuel cell buses can be refueled in just over ten minutes at a time, with a maximum range of about 400 kilometers when fully charged and fully charged. They can meet the range requirements for a day of operation, with a maximum capacity of 80 passengers per vehicle. Compared with traditional fuel powered buses, Yutong Bus, equipped with a 80kW fuel cell engine from Weishi Energy, has the characteristics of high efficiency, low hydrogen consumption, low noise, zero emissions, and can achieve low-temperature starting at minus 30 degrees Celsius. It also operates smoothly, has no vibration, and has high riding comfort.
A driver from a Changshu urban and rural bus company told reporters, “These 14 hydrogen fuel cell buses belong to the No. 235 bus, with a one-way journey of 35 kilometers and a round-trip journey of 70 kilometers, which takes two hours. The bike has 8 gas cylinders and hydrogen gas needs to be added once a day. The power performance of the fuel cell engine of the entire vehicle is still very good
He also added, “The whole vehicle has good driving and riding comfort, and the operation is more labor-saving when starting. The noise inside the driver’s cab is also smaller than that of gasoline powered vehicles
Moreover, the safety of these vehicles can definitely withstand the test of time, after all, for public transportation, delivering passengers to their destination safely is the most important thing. The quality of Yutong Bus is unquestionable, and the 80 kW fuel cell engine of Weishi Energy has added a layer of double safety to the word “safety”: the system accessories have high durability, low engine noise, and excellent electromagnetic compatibility, all of which ensure the maximum safety attributes of these 14 hydrogen fuel cell buses.
The driver said to this, “The car is very stable to drive, I think it is very reliable, and the passengers have also reported it very well
Changshu’s development of hydrogen powered public transportation is not yet supported by energy delivery
Changshu City has unique conditions for developing hydrogen fuel cell buses.
On the one hand, Changshu is located at the core of the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration and is currently building the “youngest automobile city in China”, with the development of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles as the core project for industrial transformation and upgrading; On the other hand, Changshu City, relying on its fundamental advantages in the automotive industry and abundant by-product hydrogen resources, has completed the entire industrial chain coverage from hydrogen production, hydrogen storage, fuel cells, testing, vehicle and hydrogen refueling station construction.
At the policy level, Changshu has recently released a series of policies related to the hydrogen energy industry, such as the “Changshu Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicle Industry Development Plan”, the “Changshu Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicle Industry Development Roadmap”, and the “Implementation Plan for the Development of the Hydrogen Fuel Vehicle Industry”.
All of this provides support and guidance for the implementation of the hydrogen energy industry in Changshu.
As for the development of hydrogen fuel cell public transportation in Changshu, it is natural. More importantly, the existence of hydrogen fuel cell buses can feed back the local hydrogen energy consumption market in Changshu (for example, the operation of these 14 hydrogen fuel buses can generate nearly 200 tons of hydrogen demand per year), and the active hydrogen energy consumption market can also stimulate the development of the local hydrogen energy industry to some extent.
Weishi Energy, as a leading enterprise in the domestic hydrogen energy industry. Through cooperation with Yutong, we have provided 14 hydrogen fuel cell buses with high cleanliness, low energy consumption, and extremely high safety performance for urban and rural public transportation in Changshu. This is another large-scale implementation case of Weishi Energy in the field of hydrogen public transportation after the Shanghai Lingang area, and it also indicates that the demonstration scenario of hydrogen public transportation with commercial feasibility is becoming more mature and the process of scale is accelerating.
With the assistance of Weishi Energy’s 80kW fuel cell engine, 14 Yutong fuel cell buses are operating smoothly in Changshu.
As the enterprise with the most complete product line in the hydrogen energy industry and a strong spirit of self research, Weishi Energy enters the market with energy, stands high and spreads far, takes technology as the foundation, drives large-scale applications with demonstration scenarios, and creates a truly sustainable business model. We believe that this will also become an important force in promoting the accelerated development of China’s hydrogen energy industry.
